Q. Which interest do you love the most and why?
A: I’ve always thought to myself that I was kind of boring since I never seemed to have any other interests besides fashion. I used to force myself to be more interested in politics or the environment or whatever but if I’m being honest, the one thing I know best and love most is the art of fashion.
Q. When was your first contact with fashion that sparked this passion?
A: My first contact probably goes all the way back to my childhood. I was a very quiet child for the longest time growing up and didn’t have many friends nor really needed much attention ; all I needed was my imagination which would mostly kick in when I’d play with my dolls and dressing them up or even simply putting on my princess dress on or secretly playing in my mom and sister’s wardrobes.
I also had some influences from my grandmother teaching me to knit at a young age and making jewelry. I should also mention that most of my drawings always revolved around clothing. Later on, when I finally gained more confidence in myself and was able to spend my own money the way I wanted - the only things I’d spend it on was Starbucks and clothes (something that hasn’t changed lol). Fashion has always really surrounded me, it latched onto me at a pretty early stage in my life and the passion just kept growing since then.
Q. Where does your creative input come from when it comes to styling an outfit? Would you say that you have a certain preference for a style in particular?
A: When it comes to dressing up, I usually refer to my mood to determine what i’m going to wear. Besides taking in consideration the context of where i’m going (i.e. work, interview, etc.), I usually just dress accordingly to the way I feel. When I feel confident or daring, you’ll notice my outfits will accentuate certain parts of my body and i’ll either wear heels or a statement piece even if I’m just going to grab coffee with a friend. When i’m feeling down,
I usually have the tendency to dress in black or limit myself to one colourful piece and wear baggier clothes. I’m not the most confortable with my body but I feel by taking the time in the morning to listen to myself, I actually end up dressing up in a way that boosts my confidence and helps me get through the day. As for my preferred style, I’d say I like colours and statement pieces. You don’t have to necessarily over do it but I do love people that are daring ; mixing prints, wearing multiple colours without colour coordinating, wearing puffy skirts with jeans. I’m trying to discover the more eccentric and avant-garde style myself without pushing it to a certain extreme.
Q. What inspires you the most when you’re designing clothing?
A: I’m still not completely satisfied with my creativity and am still working on developing it constantly but for now I’ll say that a lot of my designs come from within me. I’ve always been good with listening to myself, so most of my ideas are based off of my feelings. I like finding my colour inspiration from nature and some shapes will sometimes be inspired by architecture but most of my designs are based on my emotions.
I am still trying to seek more and more inspiration in abstract art though and simply push my creative research. If there’s one thing I’m certain of, I never want to base my moodboards off of magazines or other designers by fear of being influenced and creating something in the end that isn’t completely true to me.
Q. Why did you choose those outfits? Do they describe a bit of who you are?
A: As I said before, most of my outfits are always very colourful. I like dressing up in a way that makes me feel good and will also prove to people that I’m not afraid to be loud. I used to be super shy and reserved so my outfits were always very tamed, but now I’ve learnt to let myself go when dressing up and to just have fun with my clothes.
These three outfits perfectly depict that and they pretty much show people that I’m energetic, social and easy to approach in a certain way. I don’t like having attention in general, but when it comes to my wardrobe, this is the only time I enjoy people looking at me and my clothes.
